Forsake all to Follow Him

February 1, 2009

When I was younger, I used to believe the phrase that "blood was thicker than water". This was implying that those in a family should remain loyal to one another without betrayal. Yet as I grew, I realized more and more that myself, my siblings, and our parents and were merely humans, and we were incapable of holding true to such grandiose allegience. We still loved one another, but everyone, including me, had their own personal agendas and motives to attend to.

So in my teen years, I turned to friends, and foolishly believed that our bonds were stronger than that of my family's. How crushed and lonesome I felt when I began to see that close and dear friends would dare to betray me, or leave me when I most needed them.

What I was missing was that all of us are born sinful, and without Christ, we are all walking in the flesh. People are self-seeking, egotistical, greedy, manipulative, proud, self-righteous, and whenever others do not meet their needs or aren't doing what they think is right, they abandon them if not destroy them.

Through alot of this time I felt unfulfilled, unloved, and lost. But then Jesus reminded me of His everlasting Love for me, and He graciously took me back unto Himself. In Him, I find the Love and loyalty that I have so desired all of my life. Jesus has Loved me before all of creation! and because I choose to follow Him, my family IS the family of God. My home IS in heaven with the Lord Jesus Christ.

Reflecting on all of these things helps me to understand the following verses. Before, I had thought that loving others meant that we were to remain devoted to them for ever, no matter what. But now I see that if anyone or anything wants to stand in the way of my Love for Jesus, of His Holy Word, or of God's kingdom, then I am to remain loyal to my King ~ just as He IS loyal to me.

And He said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdome of God's sake,
Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting.
~ Luke 18:29-30 ~ Jesus' Words

Thank You, Lord Jesus, for Loving me with such great and pure Love. Thank You, for your loyalty and faithfulness unto me, Your child, and I pray that You Will make my heart, my mind, and my spirit remain loyal unto You. Help me to have wisdom and strength, so that I Will not let anyone or anything come before You. You ARE Holy and Sovereign, the King of heaven and earth. You ARE my God, my First Love. Thank You. Amen.

He that loveth father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.
And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after Me, is not worthy of Me.
~ Matthew 10:37-39 ~ Jesus' Words

LORD, grant me Your Wisdom

January 23, 2009

With troubles brewing in this world, and the enemy working hard to taunt me as well as the rest of God's people, I have been praying for God to grant me His Wisdom. So here are some verses about wisdom:

And I say unto you My friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
But I Will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear Him, which after He hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear Him.
~ Luke 12:4-5 ~ Jesus' Words

Christ Redeemed me ~ and I am New

January 18, 2009
Recently, I have been contacted by someone from my past. This person has brought up some of my old behaviors that God has since delivered me from. In doing this, I was accused of hiding from people those things that I was once guilty of. This is not so. I have never hidden the fact that I had strayed from the Lord, and walked in sin.

During that time, I was an alcoholic, had tried out some drugs, was sexually immoral, had my first child out of wedlock, and practiced witchcraft and shamanism. ...

Hope in Our New Blessings

January 14, 2009

There has been a greater gap in the time that I have wanted to allow myself to be away from my writing. I most sincerely apologize to any who may be following my blog, if any. Though I do not feel that there is a worthy excuse, my reasons are that the Lord has been bringing our family through great changes in a very short time.

The biggest change is that we are now expecting another baby, our fourth child altogether. Amazingly, we aren't as stressed and worried about this as I'd thought we'd b...

Repentance for Forgiveness ~ Renewed for Use

January 7, 2009
Seek ye the LORD while He may be found, call ye upon Him while He IS near:
Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and He Will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for He Will abundantly pardon.
For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My Ways, saith the LORD.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My Ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.
For as the rain cometh down, and th...

He IS the Light Shining in Darkness

January 5, 2009

Many times during the winter, my family and those closest to me know how my moods can rise and fall dramatically. Because they love me they are patient and understanding, and even when their own emotions are flaring causing us to butt heads, God gives them a soft heart filled with forgiveness and more love.

This year's season is proving to be very trying indeed, as sicknesses seem to have leached themselves to our family; the temperature's fallen to below freezing; and darkness is what we see...

He Gives us His Peace

January 2, 2009

Another way that I know that I am following in the Ways of the Lord, is this:

For God IS not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.
~ I Corinthians 14:33

If my heart is unsettled, and there are uneasy questions withing me, then I know to stop what I am doing, call on the Lord, and ask Him again to show me the right Way. Then, I must wait for Him to answer me, and know that in His answer, there Will be peace.

God's peace IS precious! There IS no turmoil in H...

Hear the Wisdom of God

December 29, 2008

People love giving others advice. For some reason, though each of us has our own lives to live and should be evaluating our own problems, we all find it easier to pick apart other people's lives, while pointing out to them where they've gone wrong. Even if the advice is well-meaning, people forget that they haven't lived the life of the one they propose to counsel. There is no way that they can understand all the aspects of the decisions they have had to make.

I find this to be true even for ...

Grace from The Father, The Son, The Holy Ghost

December 25, 2008
In the coming of the Messiah, each person in the trinity that IS God was involved. God the Father pre-ordained everything to happen, Jesus Christ, the Son of God was the One who came to walk as a man, and the Holy Ghost was the One by whom He was conceived. A holy and perfect plan was to become manifested in the form of a little newborn baby.

And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, o...

To the Throne In His Name

December 24, 2008
Whosoever therefore shall confess Me before men, him will I confess also before My Father which IS in heaven.
But whosever shall deny Me before men, him will I also deny before My Father which IS in heaven.
~ Matthew 10:32-33 ~ Jesus' Words

Christ teaches us that we must speak of our faith in Him before others. There IS power in the Name of Jesus Christ! And His power and His Love becomes magnified within us as we share our faith in Him. Our walk must be godly, chaste, always acceptable unto th...

Who God IS still making me to be:

Melody Calhoun
Beautiful Alaska

Melody Calhoun Obviously, I love to write. Words have always been intriguing to me, especially when they are eloquently put together to convey to others one's personality, as well as their veiwpoint on life all around them. I believe that writing is very theraputical, as you get to put some order to the thoughts that crowd our minds and lay heavy on our hearts. As a Christian who wants all that I write to be pleasing and acceptable unto the Lord, my works become even more than that, because I know that He has purposes I cannot even perceive or comprehend in all things done for Him. Other than writing, I like to spend time with my family. We're an odd little bunch! and we like to have fun together. Unfortunately, just like all other families, we don't always get along, but the Lord IS gracious and reminds us all of the Love He gives us to share. Hmmm,,, I love chocolate cocoanut bars; fish and chicken are my favorite foods; purple and green interwoven into and out of one another are my preffered colors; I have always felt blessed by the ministry that God has given Billy Graham; music is essential, and Jeremy Camp is my favorite Christian artist; I love Ansal Adams photography; and I absolutely Love the writings of Paul in the New Testament. Other than that, I'm pretty mellow. Smile,,, at least sometimes.
